A Ramadhan Capsule

The latest post on Noor of Nobility begins with this:
Abundantly recite the four following things during Ramadan
1) La ilaha illa Allah
2) Istighfaar
3) Ask for Jannah
4) Seek Protection from Jahannam
*The last two can be done together through the following dua’: Allahumma inni asaluka al-jannah wa ‘audhubika min an-naar.
This is a nice capsule. This is what we get to hear everyday in Ramadhan.

To Keep Or Not To Keep

A gift was given to Muhi-us-Sunnah Shah Hardoi  Hazrat Maulana Abrar-ul-Haq Sahab (RA).
The gift was in a small but very beautiful bag. Hazrat asked whether the bag has to be returned.
The answer was no-it was part of the gift.

Pure and Duplicate

This is ghee-English language desperately tried to find an equivalent like clarified butter. Alright this that-ghee.

This is a cheap, and very common, substitute for above. It is called vanaspati (vegetable) ghee-it is hydrogenated vegetable oil.

The two are as different from each other as are any pure and duplicate things. In common parlance the former is called desi ghee and the latter dalda (a brand name gone generic). These are used as metaphors to differentiate between genuine and fake things in Urdu land.

Blessings Be Sustained

Urdu Ashrafia has used some excerpts from the recently uploaded Urdu Sermons' Booklets of Hazrat Shaikh

See here
and here.

May Allah (SWT) sustain the blessings of those two blogs.

You Are Not Alone

Allah (SWT) has not forsaken you.
He (SWT) is Al-Ghafoor and Ar-Rahim.
And when you make supplications, O the Supplicant, do not do it alone.
For you are not alone.
Find a guide for yourself.

O the Supplicant do not indulge in supplications alone
Supplicate and find a guide for you.

Signs of Allah : Elders

Allah (SWT) is known from his Signs.
Somebody asked who are the People of Allah.
Somebody answered that these are the people who remind you of Allah.
Indeed our Elders (Buzurgaan-e-Deen) are Signs of Allah.
And they are also Proof of Allah (SWT).
Some of them much more than others.
Hazrat Aqdas Shah Muhammed Ashraf Ali Sahab Thanwi Quddis Allahu Sirruhu was one of them.
There you find gnosis (Marifat-e-Ilahi). And you do not find anything else there.
So what was he then, if not a Proof of Allah (SWT)?
Hujjat-ullah in deed.
If you want to be a man of Truth (Allah Sub-hanahu Wa Ta'ala)

then do not be desirous of truth from all and sundry

get it from Hazrat Ashraf Ali Shah (RA)
for he is Proof of Allah (SWT) for the people of world.

Honouring Holy Qur'an

There is lots of raucous regarding desecration of Holy Qur'an. And what about the mistreatment of it in the Mosques itself?

Amazing Generation

We have already pointed out expressions and impressions from this blog. The blogger there, though a university teacher, belongs to the new generation. And it must be an amazing generation-a hope for the future of Ummah. See for your self the comment there after passing away of Maulana Yunus Patel (RA):

It is in their noble deaths that Allah SWT proves the sincerity and truthfulness of our Ulama and Mashaaikh to those who doubt!
And All-Pure is our Lord Most High!

Sayings in Urdu Booklets Form

As reported earlier, Dr Syed Muhammed Mujtaba Husain Nadwi had been working on Urdu transcription of some of the daily Sermons in the Sittings (Majalis) of Hazrat Shaikh (DB). Eight of these Sermons have been printed in booklet form by a seminary of Majlis-e-Dawat-ul-Haq called Madarsa Muhammediya A'alapur, Lakhi Sarai, Bihar. These should soon be available in the Books page above. The present information in that page will be transferred to the similarly named page at the other blog.

Poem by Pir Zulfiqar Sahab (DB)

Change My World, Change My Heart
by
Pir Zulfiqar Ahmed Sahab Naqshbandi (DB)

Badal de Dil ki duniya dil badal day
(Alter the world of my heart, Alter my heart)
Mera Ghaflat mein dooba dil badal day
(Alter my heart submerged in heedlessness)

Hawa-o-Hirs wala dil badal day
(Alter my heart full of longings and desires)
Mera Ghaflat mein dooba dil badal day
(Alter my heart submerged in heedlessness)

Badal de Dil ki duniya dil badal day
(Alter the world of my heart, Alter my heart)
Khudaya Fazl farmaa dil badal day
(Have Mercy my Lord, Alter my heart)

Gunah gaari main kab tak Umr kaatoun
(How long shall I waste my life in sins?)
Badal day Mera rasta dil badal day
(Alter my path, Alter my heart))

Sunoun Main naam Tera dharkanon Main
(I must hear your name in heartbeats)
Maza aajaye Maula dil badal day
(That will be lovely, Alter my heart)

Hataaloun aankh apni Maa-siwa say
(I must turn my eyes away from others)
Jiyoun Mein Teri khatir dil badal day
(I must live for you only, Alter my heart)

Karoun Qurbaan Apni Saari Khushiyaan
(I must sacrifice all of my happiness)
Tu apna ghum ata kar dil badal day
(Give me your pain, Alter my heart)

Sehal farmaa musalsal yaad apni
(Make your constant remembrance easy fro me)
Khudaya Reham farmaa dil badal day
(Have Mercy o my Lord, Alter my heart)

Para houn Teray dar par dil shikasta
(I am lying broken with heart at your door step)
Rahoun kyu dil shikasta dil badal day
(Why should I remain so? Alter my heart)

Tera hojaoun itni arzoo hay
(To be yours only, this is my longing)
Bas itni hay tamanna dil badal day
(That is my desire, Alter my heart)

Meri faryaad sunlay Meray Maula
(Hear my cry O My Lord)
Banalay apna banda dil badal day
(Make me your slave, Alter my heart)

Dilay magmoom ko masroor karday
(Change my sad heart into happy one)
Dil-e-be noor ko purnoor karday
(Change my lack luster heart into shining one)

Faroza dil mein sham-e-toor karday
(Enlighten my heart with the lamp of Sinai)
Yay gosha noor say m'amoor karday
(Fill this corner with light)

Mera zahir sanwar jaaye Ilaahi
(O my Lord, let my outer be groomed)
Meray baatin ki zulmat door karday
(Remove all the darkness inside me)

Hay meri ghaat mein khud nafs mera
(My own baser self is after me)
Khudaya isko bey maqdoor karday
(O Lord make it ineffective))

Ma-e-wahdat Pila makhmoor karday
(Make me drink the wine of Your Unity, Make me drunk)
Mohabbat k nashay main choor karday
(Make me drunk with the sedative of your love)

Good Guessing and As-Sattar

Our reality is hidden because of Allah (SWT)'s hiding (He is As-Sattar-the one who hides our weaknesses) and good guessing (husn-e-dhan) on part of the people. If this makes someone to think good of himself then there is no one more foolish than him.

Salam Over Telephone

Maulvi Abdul Muqsit, special helper to Hazrat Shaikh (DB), reported at tea time that Mufti Khwaja Masoom Sahab had called at the Sitting (Majlis) time and had conveyed Salam. This pleased Hazrat Shaikh(DB) a lot. He said that Khaja Masoom Sahab and Waseem Sahab (of Azamgarh) are two people who have lots of love (for Hazrat Shaikh (DB)).

Moulana Yunus Patel (RA)

The sound of his words “Allah! Allah!” still vibrate not only within the four walls of Masjid Nur in Asherville, Durban, but in the crannies of thousands of Muslim homes. His ardent plea of “O My Beloved Allah! O My Most Merciful!” continues to be etched in the hearts of thousands, layman and scholars, young and old, from the East and the West, all alike. This blessed soul who captivated the hearts of any who were even favoured with a glimpse at his illuminated face or had an eavesdrop on his charismatic voice was laid to rest in the soil of the most blessed land on earth after Fajr Salah on Wednesday, 13 July 2011.
The skies above the Noble Ka'bah witnessed a spiritual entourage, very seldom seen, moving in Tawaaf around the House of Allah shortly before Maghrib Salah on Tuesday, 12 July 2011. A short while after Salah this trail settled down in one area of the Mataaf benefiting from his pearls of wisdom and subsequently Maulana began experiencing chest pains which was followed by his soul tranquilly departing into the mercy of Allah. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un...
Maulana Yunus Patel Rahimahullah was born in about 1945 in the KwaZulu-Natal town of Stanger. As a young boy, a personality which left a lasting impression upon his heart and served as an inspirational role model for him was Haji Bhai Padi rahimahullah.
As Maulana himself narrated, “One day in 1962, when Haji Bhai just began his efforts of Tabligh, an announcement was written on the notice board in Grey Street Masjid that Haji Ghulam Muhammad Padia will be delivering a lecture. After completion of the lecture, Haji Bhai called for help but nobody stood up. So Haji Bhai's father-in-law volunteered, together with me (a 17 year old young boy at the time) and another elderly man. On another occasion, I decided to accompany Haji Bhai to sleep in the Umzinto Masjid as he was going to be sleeping alone in the Masjid. For hours that night, Haji Bhai kept busy in Tahajjud crying before Allah. We traveled from Durban to Escourt, then to Ladysmith and further on to Johannesburg. At every town, Haji Bhai implored the people regarding the importance of Deen, however nobody was interested to assist. Throughout the journey, it was Haji Bhai's crying of two hours every night that never stopped.”
In the early 1960s Moulana Yunus was one from among the early group of youth who traveled to Darul Uloom Deoband, India, to pursue the studies of Deen. Together with being a student par excellence, he was the confidante of many of his illustrious teachers and served them diligently at home and on travel.
Upon his return, he served the community of Mooiriver as an Imam and teacher. He was motivated to go there by the fact that at the time there was not a single Aalim serving the Muslim communities between Pietermaritzburg and Newcastle. Even though people in the Transvaal offered him a much higher salary together with house, lights and water, the need of Deen took him to the icy cold town of Mooiriver where he accepted meagre pay and had to live in a tin shanty home. For him the need of Deen was greater.
After four years or so, he moved back to Durban and was instrumental in establishing the first offices of the Jamiatul Ulama (KZN) upon the insistence of Maulana Ansari Rahimahullah. For many years thereafter, Maulana Yunus served the Ummah under the auspices of the organization and subsequently was the secretary general and later the president of the Jamiatul Ulama (KZN).
During the famous Qadiani Dispute in Cape Town during the early 1980s, Maulana Yunus was part of the team of expert 'Ulama who prepared the required expert evidence in the court case to defend the honour of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam and the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah.
At a time when general indifference towards Deen prevailed and signs of Deen were noticeably rare in the South African society, Maulana established a girls’ Madrasah in 1982 in Asherville, Durban. Students who initially had very little inclination towards Deen, would be motivated with his perseverance and dedication to change their lives within a short space of time.
In recent years, Maulana Yunus became deeply concerned about the unity and well being of the 'Ulama. He constantly strove to harmonize relations between them at junctures when situations were adversarial. His emphasis was to focus on the broader picture and greater benefit for the Ummah. In his words, “The need of the time is that we can maintain of our different opinions, but if someone has been instrumental in the service of Deen we can differ with him with respect and dignity. On other issues however, we should work together.”
Maulana Yunus was honoured with the mantle of Khilafah from two great luminaries, Mufti Mahmoodul Hasan Gangohi Rahimahullah and later on Maulana Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Saheb. Over the many years, thousands around the globe drank from his fountain of wisdom, piety and knowledge. Scores of people are known to have changed their lives just by sitting in our of his gatherings.
His humility, generosity, concern for the well being of the young and old coupled with his burning love of Allah and his Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam were remarkable traits all embodied in one personality.

Auliya and Auliya

Auliya is plural of Wali.
Wali means a friend. Many times it is reserved for friends of Allah.
Waliullah means friend of Allah.
Auliya Allah means friends of Allah.
Now the question comes to mind as to how one can become a friend of Allah. Where is the office where we can apply? Where do we get the application form? Which office? Which site on the internet?
None of this is required. To be a friend of Allah is simple. Just give up sins.
It is really that simple. If you give up sins you become a friend of Allah(SWT).
Now every sin is voluntary-we do them out of our own volition. So giving up sins too is voluntary. Nobody is forcing us to do them. We indulge in them on our own.
Even after so much of beating around the topic one doubt remains in the hearts of some people.
In spite of your firm decision to give up sins you might end up doing them-that is a fact of nature as created by our Lord Most High. The trick is to indulge in repentance in such cases and to resolve not commit the mistake again.
Thus giving up sins means that you do not insist upon sins.
The glory of our Scholars of Deoband is that they not only gave an explanation of Islam but also acted upon it. These two things are different-to have knowledge and to act upon it. Our Elders excelled in both.
And all Praise is due to Allah (SWT) for that.
Brother Ibn Aurangzeb is compiling the list of 89 Auliya of Deoband at Sunni Forum from a book  called Tadhkirah Awliyah-e-Deoband written by Mawlana Hafiz Syed Muhammad Akbar Shah Bukhari. Her has kindly consented for inclusion of that list for our benefit. Here it is.

Method is Innovation

There is a growing number of people who concur that mystic methods (tariqas) are innovations (bidah). Wahhabi-Salafi-Ahl-e-Hadith are the titles that these people have chosen for themselves. They do have fervent differences among themselves. They also try to impose their view on others. Islam is all about obedience and obedience if painful on our Baser Self. This new ideology caters to this urge to revolt against any injunction from power, including the Source of All Power. hence the youth and many of those who have been endowed with higher levels of intellectual facilities fall prey to this trap. One pet peeve of these friends is against mysticism. See here for an example. Here is one post that should be reassuring to those who follow the Path (sulook) in face of the persistent onslaught by the so called progressive people.

Update on Qari Sahab(DB)

Qari Amir Hasan Sahab (DB) came to Anona House yesterday around noon time. Today evening immediately after Maghrib he left for Delhi en route to Hyderabad. He said few things in the Sitting (Majlis) on both days. He is still very weak and keeps bending forward during the Salah. Further supplications are requested.

Mufti From Muradabad

There is Mufti of very high caliber but not at all unconcerned with his own self correction. It warms up the heart (to talk to them). He came from Muradabad and with a few words only said that my visit has become useful.

Spreading the Legs

Hazrat Shaikh Hakim Kalimullah Sahab (DB) quoted a couplet at the tea time today of Bahadur Shah Zafar which says that shall spread out out legs only in the tomb for rest. (Phaila ke pair soyenge zer-e-mazaar ...). Hazrat Shaikh (DB) is much affected by illness of Hazrat Qari Sahab (DB). Though Hazrat Qari Sahab (DB) is a disciple (mureed) of Hazrat Shaikh (DB) but he is more thought of as a great blessing. After tea Hazrat asked people to leave for the mosque. (The time was just before Maghrib but there was clear desire to be left alone.)

(After Sitting (Majlis) Tea on Monday, July 4, 2011)

Hazrat Qari Amir Hasan Sahab (DB) Unwell

Qari Sahab (DB) keeps telling us that he is ninety years old. Today there was a telephone talk with Dr Shuaib (from Hardoi). Qari Sahab (DB) is in a state of stagger (hunoodgi). This is the common term. In mysticism the proper word is to be in daze (tahaiyur). This is a state of surprise. His room is very small and people keep bothering in spite of instructions for not doing so. In his last visit to Aligarh the situation was better in the sense that people were not allowed to bother him. (I) had asked him to be shifted to any place he preferred-Aligarh, Lucknow, Hyderabad or Bombay. Make supplications for him. With the blessings of Supplications Allah (SWT) returns the calamities. These Elders are the treasure of the Ummah.

(Sitting (majlis) on Monday, July 4, 2011)

The Life of Worldly Things

How long will these worldly fame and wealth, house and land survive? Today these are with one person tomorrow these will be with some body else.

(Sitting (majlis) on Monday, July 4, 2011)

Friends of Allah Too Are Mortal

Which ever reformers of our characters are present they too will leave the world one day. They are present for a definite duration only. (Though not known to us.) This has been observed that if the number of people contacting an Elder for self correction increases too much then it is an indication that he last time has arrived. Slowly Allah (SWT) calls the Masha-ikh back. (I) was present with Ali Miyan (RA) in 1999. Paralysis has already struck. The room was full of medicines and aids necessary for various contingencies. Elders indulge in these things (medicine) for the sake of their associates other wise have got some inclination about their departure. In no case they put their trust in these worldly efforts. Allah (SWT) has said that life and death is in His hands. All the medical facilities might be present but His decree prevails. Only Allah (SWT) knows when death will over take. Similarly people used ask (beloved Prophet (PBUH)) as to when the doomsday will arrive. They were told that only Allah (SWT) knows but there are some indications.

(Sitting (majlis) on Monday, July 4, 2011)

Value Life Before Death

Qari Sahab (DB) keeps saying that value life before death. This attitude will enter our life if we go in the service of the People of Allah.

(Sitting (majlis) on Tuesday, July 5, 2011)

Desirable Worries

If you indulge in Remembrance then it will induce concern in your heart-concern for hereafter, concern for good deeds, concern for giving up sins.

(Sitting (majlis) on Monday, July 4, 2011)

A Subtle Denial

When you keep Allah (SWT) happy then you'll have no hesitation what so ever in leaving this world. Today people indulge in this kind of statement that this was an unfortunate death because there are very small kids left behind by the deceased and how shall they survive.

(Sitting (majlis) on Monday, July 4, 2011)

Lest He Be Angry

Supplicate to Allah in this way,"O Allah let me do no such thing that will make you angry with me." Where will you go by making Him angry? You'll have no place to take refuge be it the earth or the sky.

(Sitting (majlis) on Monday, July 4, 2011)

Even in Solitude

If you indulge in Remembrance of Allah then you shall feel its Light even in solitude.

(Sitting (majlis) on Monday, July 4, 2011)

Specially for Morning

This has been requested earlier that when you get up in the morning then there are many Supplications but one should be specially included that beseeches Allah Most High to make our knowledge our Light and make it our Guidance.

(Sitting (majlis) on Monday, July 4, 2011)
